Lights! Camera! Action!
Is it every author’s dream come true? Seeing a book you wrote turned into a movie?
Honestly, I can’t say it ever was for me. After all, that kind of magic was reserved for other authors.
Then last fall, I got the most amazing email. A producer was interested in the Jazz Ramsey cadaver dog mysteries I wrote as Kylie Logan. Were the film rights still available?
From that fateful day until now, time has whizzed by, and so many things have happened. I read and reviewed the script. I received pictures of the cast. I even got to be on the set while the movie was being filmed.
And let me tell you, that was a whole lot of fun!
Moviemaking is something I know nothing about. Or at least I didn’t until those rainy days in April outside of Toronto. That means for me, every minute on the set was an education. And every single cast and crew member was gracious enough to answer questions, and explain procedures, and welcome me with open arms into the movie world of Jazz Ramsey.
In the pics (above), I’m posing with some of the cast. From l-r: Douglas Walker (he has the most delicious Scottish accent!), Rachel Skarsten (Jazz, so warm and friendly), the author (who is obviously the shortest person on earth…or at least in that scene), Corey Sevier (Nick, Jazz’s former boyfriend–what a nice man!), Zarrin Darnell-Martin (Sarah, Jazz’s best friend), and Fuad Ahmed (the father of a student at the school where Sarah works).
That picture of the monitor showing the dog is one I snapped when I was sitting with the director. And the pic at the top? There I am sitting at Sarah’s desk (she’s the principal of Astor Academy where she and Jazz both attended school).
And of course, what account of my time in Canada would be complete if I didn’t introduce this handsome leading man.
This gorgeous K-9 may look familiar. He plays Zeus in “Jazz Ramsey: A K-9 Mystery,” but his real name is Diesel Vom Burgimwald, and he’s Rex on the show “Hudson and Rex.”
Yes, Diesel is a good boy!
